Prevent Survive Thrive: Every Woman’s Guide to Optimal Breast Care”
By Dr. John West

bookThis book was written to empower women to take charge of their breast health. It explains what women of all ages need to know about common breast problems like breast pain and lumps.  It also provides lifesaving advice on how to detect breast cancer when it is potentially curable.  Finally, the book outlines what to do if you have been recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

The book is based on my forty plus years of caring for women with breast problems.  The advice provided in the book is the same advice I would give to my wife or daughter.

Read an excerpt below.

Rachael had what appeared to be a typical breast cancer. She had already undergone a lumpectomy and recently finished a six-week course of radiation therapy. She told me about an event that occurred during her first visit to the radiation department. In preparing her for treatment, a technician used a felt pen to outline the area to receive an extra dose of radiation.

She asked the technician, “Why the drawing?” The response was, “This is where your original cancer was located.” Rachel looked at the drawing and lights exploded in her head. The drawing was in the shape of a rectangle. She reached for her cell phone (an old-fashioned flip phone) and placed it over the marking on her breast. It was an almost perfect match.
