  • Mays Swicord conducted doctoral research in bioelectricalmagnetics at the University of Maryland, with support of the Office of Naval Research and the FDA .  His published studies in 1983 presented results of a device he had designed to measure resonance induced by microwave radiation which showed that DNA in the brain of rodents resonated much more frequently than water.
  • An Optical Method for Investigating the Microwave Absorption Characteristics of DNA and Other Biomolecules in Solution | Mays L. Swicord & Christopher C. Davis | 1983

“The observed absorption of microwave energy by DNA could be the result of dielectric relaxation of segments of the molecule or an indication of an optical absorption mode broadened by the presence of water molecules. However, the results presented in this work are in good agreement with the Prohofsky model of acoustic mode absorption by varying lengths of DNA. Prohofsky and Van Zandt predicted that 450 to 2000 base pair segments of synthetic DNA should absorb lo3 to lo4 times as strongly in the microwave region as an equivalent mass of water with a decrease i peak absorption due to water damping. The 1.7% dilution of DNA investigated by PFLOH spectroscopy in this work indicated a 40% increase in absorption above pure water at 8 GHz and a 10 to 12% increase at 12 GHz.  Based on the concentration of the DNA solution which gave 40% more absorption than pure water at 8 GHz, the microwave absorption of DNA at this frequency is 24times greater than for an equivalent mass of water.”  p. 41

5 – An Electrical Storm in the Brain
  • Over the past three decades, Professor Om. P. Gandhi and his collaborators have produced a large number of important analyses and devised models to estimate brain absorption from radiofrequency radiation.  Until 1996, they were supported by industry.  They showed that uneven distribution of RF in the brain could result in much higher exposures in small areas, making the use of a 10 gram cube for averaging exposures highly questionable.  DeSalles and colleagues in Porto Alegre, Brasil and Niels Kuster and colleagues in Switzerland have also provided additional elaboration on this work, showing that children are more vulnerable than adults.
